This Dance Group Is Bringing Tap Dancing Back in a Major Way
If you are looking to expand your understanding of dance as an art form, look no further than this event! Dorrance Dance, a dance company dedicated to melding tap and modern dance stylings, will perform live at The Peace Center on Sunday, November 18th.
Dorrance Dance is an award-winning dance company that aims to honor and expand America’s original art form: tap dance. The company’s inaugural performance garnered a Bessie Award for “blasting open our notions of tap.” Founder Michelle Dorrance was awarded a 2018 Doris Duke Artist Award and has been called “one of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today" (The New Yorker).
The program includes the exhilarating Myelination (2017) set to live, original music; the rarely seen, Bessie Award-winning Three to One (2011); and the whimsical Jungle Blues (2012). The award-winning New York based dance company was founded in 2011 by artistic director Michelle Dorrance and aims to honor the timeless traditions of tap dance while bringing something new and innovative to the practice.
Mentored by fellow tap professional Gene Medler, Michelle Dorrance honors tap dance, which is one of America's most famous dance styles and has had her choreography watched and praised all over the world. The company has performed worldwide in places including Massachusetts, Colorado, Canada, Spain, Germany and Hong Kong.
Tickets are now available to witness Dorrance Dance at Peace Concert Hall. Tickets start at 15 dollars and may be purchased online.
